Overview

Shirley is an associate in our firm specializing in both civil litigation and probate practice. She possesses dual degrees in arts and law. With a robust legal foundation in Hong Kong, she is adept at providing a wide range of legal services in respect of both contentious and non-contentious matters.

In terms of dispute resolution, Shirley has ample experience in civil and commercial litigation, private client matters, winding-up and insolvency, property litigation and debt recovery actions.  Having navigated numerous high-conflict cases, Shirley deeply understands the emotional and financial pressure clients may encounter in the course of litigation.  With the said strain in mind, Shirley prioritizes practical and cost-effective solution, including settlements, mediation, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, while remaining fully conversant with court procedures and analytical about merits in each and every case so as to get well prepared to robustly advance clients’ interests in every aspect.

In terms of probate practice, Shirley has been involved in both contentious and non-contentious probate and administration.  Shirley also has experience in dealing with complicated probate applications, including those concerning homemade wills and proof of testamentary intention. 

Recent highlights

  • Acting for clients in various land disputes including recovery of rents and property, adverse possession action and repudiation of sale and purchase agreement;  
  • Acting for employees referred by the Protection of Wages on Insolvency Fund Board to institute winding-up or bankruptcy proceedings against insolvent employers; 
  • Acting for both individual and corporate to set aside statutory demands; 
  • Acting for private clients in various matters including trust, tort, and breach of duties; 
  • Acting for one of the largest local insurance companies as the creditor to commence debt recovery actions against debtors and/or assisting client in reaching a full and final settlement with them;
  • Assisting in applications for Grant where an applicant who did not have direct proof of relationship with the deceased, where a testator made a homemade will and proof of testamentary intention is required, and where a will of a testator was only found subsequently after the original grant had been made.
